Rock my world

Today we will journey to a land before time! It’s sitting right there on display in my house! Why do we keep stuff, anyway? Do we just see what we like and like what we see?  This collection started with a 2 year old that brought things back to me every time he took a walk. Soon a big older than old wooden bowl was filled and he had sucked me in!  We were both bringing home pocket fulls. Now I’m thinking we need to go geode hunting. Anyway, the plan is to get everything labelled, there’s even a giant Book of Rocks sitting on the shelf as proof of the one day plan but til then, it’s just not that scientific, is it?  It’s the hunt, I know, but how do we decide what to hunt for? That instead of just having one or two, we spend months or years finding more. I don’t know what it is, but I like it.

What do you have more than one, wait, more than 9 of?

I was on a hike to get down to some dinosaur tracks in Vernal, Utah. Part of the trail was covered with these little sand stone marbles.  My friend told me that the wind and rain naturally removes most of the sand over time and leaves these mineral rich marbles behind. I’d love to find a whole field full of them. I know it exists!

I spent all one morning digging in a fossil field before I spotted this little guy. Have you ever seen a fossil field?  It looks like any other dry hillside you might not want to stop at.  A ranger told me to keep looking. It felt like a snipe hunt!  I was hoping for a rib cage but this dried up guppy will do.

This hummingbird has great taste! Green and blue paint flecks?  And not even just blue but a robins egg blue.

    • Doesn’t everyone have a bowl of clay marbles and an assortment of petrified whatnots on their shelf?? I mean come on!!! Glad you like what you see. I’m having fun with this!! kimi.

  1. I also have jars and trays of so many found treasures from everywhere. I decorate my house around these collections :) and I love your Moqui marbles! I have spent a lot of time fossil hunting on vaca. It is such a fun time–and addictive!!! I have NEVER come home from the beach without at least one piece of treasure–it is like shopping for the best things in life for FREE! Loved the post, totally my aesthetic :)

    • Campbell. I saw a pic on line of a whole area of marbles. Like 4 acres!!! I gotta find out where that is!!! Just rollin round!!! k.

    • Oh, I’m sure you have loads of little goodies from your travels. I just left a response on your site but not sure if it posted…well, it didnt, yet. Basically….I LOVE your choice of hiking shoes!!! Polka dots are always good!!! kimi.

  2. Sounds like you may have a future geologist on your hands! Collecting is how my husband started out and now he is a collector of many things and a geologist! He collects rocks, art, music zines and vinyl. We are always stopping by gem mines on the side of the road on road trips. Have fun collecting!

    • Oh….I’d love to be on one of those road trips. I don’t quite know what to look for. Most of what I find ends up on the beach for me to scoop up! Thanks for the comment!! kimi.
