Gnome terrarium paradise

I remember being fascinated with terrariums as a kid. Mini worlds encased in glass. That was probably somewhere in the 70s but it wasn’t til I saw one filled with succulents on some florists website that I finally went for it. I don’t consider myself to have a green thumb, I only go for plants that are easy and super forgiving! This one’s been going for over a couple months now and I just noticed some baby plants popping up. There’s also a tiny little spider living in there. Everybody must be pretty happy! It’s the perfect pet!!! No spit, poop and best of all it requires NO exercise. Heaven in a fishbowl! My contented gaze is proof!

There are tons of tutorials, how to’s and lists online for making terrariums. I got a big fishbowl, cut some plants from the yard and did it. I used pea gravel from the backyard, too. Only thing I had to buy was cactus mix, a bag of moss and charcoal. Don’t know if I even really needed the charcoal but I liked the idea. Took about 10 min. to assemble. I keep this one in an east facing corner window and spray the heck out of it with water once a month. It seems to love me. Try it!

Really you don’t consider yourself to have a green thumb?!? I still have garden envy and I haven’t seen yours for way too long. I think your thumb is as green as they come. Love this!

Jennie….look at you! Sharing the pixie love ..THANKS!!! Kimi.
Great job, Kimi! So cute with the gnomes! I’ve been wanting to do a terrarium for over a year now, but surface space is rare in these parts! Just might have to shuffle some Pyrex for this. ;)
Or….in a pyrex!!! K.
¡¡¡BUENO!!! :)
I adore this! And it doesn’t seem to hard! Really a great post.
Do it!!! So easy! AND…THANKS!!! Hope to hear from ya again with a picture of your new “pet”. Hee. kimi.
I am tempted to try! I will let you know if I do. I have the perfect container.
Of course you’ll let me know…and send a pic, alrighty? Beware…they are a little addicting. I made 3 other similar ones the same day…love it and soooo easy!!! I read that they require about 80 sprays of water once a month. I spray way more than 80 but have only done it twice….seems right. Thanks for stopping by pixie!! kimi.
I did it! Mine still needs a gnome, though. You can check it out here. I linked to your blog if you don’t mind. http://capeofdreams.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/well-planted/
Another gnome sweet gnome! I love the micro existence.
Gnomes and plants look happy!
that’s what i thought. OK and the great thing about succulents is that they aren’t fickle. Just stick em int he soil, done!!!
