Easy DIY tshirt backpack

Tshirts are one of life’s great inventions, don’t ya think?  After years of faithful service, they’re hard to toss out. They hold sentimental value. My bro in law has a quilt made from all his concert Tshirts. The perfect T is beloved, useful and loyal to the end. I needed a cool project to do with the kids at our big family reunion. Wanted to make it out of something old and it had to be usable. T-shirt saves day!!! Here’s a little backpack I made out of an old favorite. The Flip Side lives on!

Let me know if you have questions about making this easy DIY tshirt backpack. I used a 14×16 inch rectangle for the pattern and paracord for the drawstring.  You know, it’s the great parachute cord people make the survival bracelets out of. Comes in loads of colors and patterns. Grommets! Get to know and love grommets. They are easy to install and make things look like the real deal.

The Flip Side is an independent movie made by Rod Pulido about filipino family culture. He used a few Moonpools and Caterpillars songs for the soundtrack.

  1. just used your tutorial to make a bag from the GoGo’s t-shirt i got at a white elephant party this christmas! the shirt was 80 times too big for me so i figured i’d make into something useful. :)

    • HEART sounds really cool! Anytime you can take people outside of themselves and get them involved in something healthy, there is a ton to be gained. No matter what the circumstances. Where are you located? If in so cal I would love to help. kimi.

      • Hi Kimi, Thank you for your response. HEART is really cool! We are located in Johannesburg South Africa where there are approximately 1.9 million AIDS orphans, most of which are forced to grow up way too quickly! We hope to give some of these children an opportunity to play, have fun, be silly, create, be stimulated and be apart of something that is community focused. We are in need of all the help we can get, in any shape or form. Please follow us on our blog and take a look at our Website; heart-artsa.co.za/

  2. Thank you Kimi! I was just about to buy one of these backpacks since my last one died at girls camp last week. I have plenty of T-shirts and think it would be an awesome activity for YW too. Win-win!! I’m headed to the fabric store for paracord
