Summertime and the dangers of no TV

I learned early if kids watch a lot of TV it makes everything else “boring”. I’m rarely bored, so the thing around here is if you’re bored, you’re boring!  Go do something about it. How annoying am I?? Needless to say, the TV is off during the day! (video games, too)

Here’s a tiny peek at summer days with no electronic entertainment. It’s questionable, for sure. These are only the things I happen to take pix of.  I’ve noticed from the remnants that a lot of the activities involve nails, power tools, high pressure or matches. Fire crackers attached to lego builds, homemade air soft guns, dust boarding down the dirt hill on a variety of semi flat items and there’s almost always something getting launched.  Balloons, eggs and old tomatoes tend to be favorites. Baking soda and vinegar are in high demand and all my good pens have been made into blow darts.

Right this minute, as I type, I hear 2 boys outside my window talking about explosives. A ping pong ball shoots out from a piece of pvc pipe and smacks one of them in the head.  I go out to take a look and part of the contraption is the missing spring from the toilet paper holder.  Mystery solved! Maybe I should just turn on the TV!

They asked if they could have a little ice cream.

A kicked up version of “helicoptor’. A sock filled with rice on the end of a rope.  They hog tie eachother in mid air! Their legs are covered in bruises!

I could hear the xbox going one afternoon.  I went to see who the culprit was and found this towel man sitting in front of the TV. They even thought to add the ‘Loser’ hat!

No skimping on the details.  Of course this booby trap would have a camouflage paint job.

Above is the desk of the kid that seems to be the brain behind the majority of the shenanigans. Then here he is after a days work. Total wipe out!

I’ll leave you with this. A front flip off the roof into the pool. For some reason, I allow it. I guess I allow it all!

  1. Just want to know one thing: where are they shooting all the rotten tomatoes and such?!
Can’t wait to make your blueberry muffins, they look scrumptious!!

  2. What a joyful post! It reminds me of everything I love about childhood summers. The boredom is actually a big part of it (or battling the boredom, rather). That’s how I came up with the wacky games and crafts that now fill my parent’s basement (…awkward?). Looks like you and your family have come up with some effective anti-boredom methods too!

    • Glad you liked it! You sounds like you had it goin on as a kid! That’s why you’re so interesting now!! You can thank that ma and pa!! Love, love, love no popo no urines, btw. All the pix in that post are GREAT!! kimi.

      • Haha thank you Kimi! I laugh every time I walk past the “no popo” sign… and I try not to wonder too much about what on earth prompted them to write it.

  3. I LOVE IT!!!!! Kids outside – being active?! AMAZING!!!! I grew up not watching televsion + at the time I resented my parents – but I appreciate it immensely as an adult!!! I never have the urge to turn on a televsion even if there’s one in the room + I’m NEVER BORED!!!!!!

  4. In retrospect it’s probably good that our boys grew up on opposite ends of So. Cal. Something major would blown up or burned down.

  5. Hahaha! Here, soul sister, is where our lives veer dramatically! With one boy among five girls, the only explosive conversations going on here are of the emotional type! We do have bows and arrows, air soft and bb guns…but mostly evil plotting to freeze cuddly bunnies in carbonite (read: ice blocks) is what’s goin on. :) That Loser x-boxer is great! :)

  6. Hahahahaaaaaaa I love it all! ….especially the towel man! glad to see the Sasquatch didn’t make it on the front flip scenery… phew…

  7. I can’t stop laughing!! The pillow boy is my favorite!! You guys are the funnest! Like I said, you never know what you’re going to see at the Encarnacion’s.

What are you thinking?
