It’s all sunshine and succulents

Succulents are great for 2 reasons. They are super easy for the quasi lazy gardener. Actually, less lazy, more forgetful (me) gardener. Small effort, huge appeal. They last forever, and when they start looking scraggly in their pots you just break off the young plants and start over. Which get’s me to the second greatest thing about succulents. You really do just snap off a piece and stick it in some soil and you’re on your way to more plants. We had this barren  hillside across the street.  People on the street started sticking succulents and yuccas in the ground 2 years ago. Look HERE, all the plants in the background of those post pix are from that planting! Now we go over there to get cuttings for our own yards. My neighbors little succulent garden gets robbed constantly, somebody just takes right from the top! He’s ticked! I promise, it’s not me! Serious! Even I have my limits! Most love good drainage, so use cactus soil mix.

So far, I’ve stuck with pot plantings but I’m branching out! Can’t wait! It’s been a gardening couple of weeks. Boysenberries, gnomes, I’m making a table top terrarium and then finally, the shipping pallet dream is about to become reality. Funny, that list is only stuff I post on the pixie. There’s more. We’ve had sunshine lately which is not typical for SoCal in June. We call it June gloom.  It’s the month that even the most annoyingly happy people  can become depressed. We’re such babies, imagine what would happen here if we had a real winter. I think that’s been the inspiration to get outside and stay busy. I have so many ideas!

  2. Hmmmm…..maybe that isn’t the Puppy’s Foot, but the fuzzy succulent that smells like rosemary. Must give you a start of my Puppy’s Foot if I didn’t already.

  3. I think I see the Puppy’s Foot I gave you—I love that plant! I would love a start of the String of Pearls plant sometime :)

What are you thinking?
