Go granola…Pixie style!

Homemade granola is crunchy goodness at it’s best. You can put anything you want in it but here’s my latest favorite granola recipe. I’ve added all these puffed little whatnot’s and it’s like eating Sugar Smacks only honey-er! Let’s do it!

California Pixie Granola

  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 4 Tablespoons honey
  • 3 Tablespoons real maple syrup (the kind that comes from a tree, not Aunt Buttersworth)
  • 4 drops (at least) real vanilla
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 2 cups regular oats
  • 1 cup puffed, unsweetened millet, kamut or both (find in cereal section of a good market)
  • 2 Tablespoons (at least!) dried coconut

Set oven to 325 degrees. Heat first 4 items in a pot.  Mix dry stuff into a big bowl.  Pour the liquid over and mix it all up.  Dump granola out onto a cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes total. Take the pan out and stir granola around every 5 minutes or else the top will get too toasty brown. Wash and dry the big bowl you used for mixing. After 20 minutes, when granola is done cooking, pour it into the bowl to cool. Store in airtight container. Stays really fresh for about a month.  If you can’t track down the puffs, add another cup of oatmeal, instead. but I highly encourage the use of puffs!  : )

Tell me how it goes or share a fave version of your own with me.

  1. Our kids suck down homemade granola like it’s oxygen…we make a double batch with 14 cups of oats, and it’s gone in 3 days. :P I’ll definitely put your recipe in rotation- it looks yummy! I’ve been wanting to do the puffy extras! Now to get out my calculator to “times five” this thang… :)

    • OK, THAT’s exactly how I feel. LOVE breakfast ideas. I have a repertoire of about 5 favorite items. This is on that list. Thanks for lookin. k.

  2. Awesome…just made this recipe yesterday! I’m starting to be envious of your life…seems like you have all the time in the world to just do projects and anything you want! Gotta get me a life like that!! :)
