The boysenberries of summer

I walked around the corner of the house yesterday and found boysenberries!  A bunch of em! I went on a kick replacing landscape plants with edibles a couple years ago. These boysenberries are the first fruits of my labors. I still can’t even believe it! With a bowl full, the next thought was MILKSHAKES! Vanilla icecream, milk, a little cream (just because we can) and a giant handful of berries later, we had perfection! Summertime, baby!!!

  2. Hi Kimi, Linda just posted your blog on FB. I love it! What impresses me most are your photos. They are art in themselves. The framing, colors, narratives. So good!

  3. Kimi~ I saw somewhere that you can freeze ripe bananas in their skin. What do you do when you take them out of the freezer? How do you get the peels off?

    • Ha…Weill Linda dear…let me tell ya. I thaw them. OR…freeze perfectly ripe bananas already peeled and ready to toss into smoothies. That’s a tip I learned from a raw foodie friend. Abby.

      • Kimi~
I have tried freezing peeled bananas, and if I don’t use them quickly, they turn brown. I am trying your “freeze ‘em with the skins on” method right now–will let you know how it turns out.

      • Yep. I’ve done that forever. Learned it from my mom. When I know I’m making muffins I set them out on a plate to thaw. They are a goopy mess but the gooier and riper the better for flavor in baking! k.

  4. I love that first pic..you all fuzzed out in the background…can I have your photo skills? AND, what up with Rock being so tall? I thought we made them freeze their size and ages a few years ago…can’t keep growing! ps. keep up the good work :) hell ya, if you know what I mean!

    • Hahahaha….o I get it!!!! Byron actually took that shot at my suggestion. He’s pretty good! Thanks brendy…always great to get your supportive feedback!!

  5. Yummy. We have the berries, now we need ice cream. I am so enjoying your photos and you. It makes me feel a part of your daily life.

    • awesome shannon! Hahaha…as if I wasn’t already obnoxious enough! I din’t know you were a pixie person…FUN!!! ya….make the shakes…soooo good.

    • Well this is my teeny weeny version of that. And in a milkshake??? YES! So GREAT seeing you sundaya nd that new babe is delightful. What a little man and that oxford onsie ate me up!

  6. I can see them…black skin shining in the sun…! Now I will have that stuck in my head alllll day. :) Beautiful berries! Isn’t gardening so wonderfully rewarding when you actually get to eat what you’ve worked for?! Now off to google how to get the white mold off my tomatillos… :P

    • Haha…sing away. Gardening…don’t you LOVE the internet?? I did tomatillos last year and didn’t get one! Not hot enough, I guess. Have a great day!!

      • These were a total surprise! We had them last year in a pond-form-turned-planter, and about 10 volunteer plants popped up this year- yay! But labor-intensive this time- I spent a week hand-picking mexican beetle worms off (Disgusting!!!). Tons of tomatillos forming, but now the mildew. Can’t imagine this on a large scale- much props and many thanks to our local farmers!!!

      • hey i grew those last year too…they were interesting…they just stretched out over my whole garden, all 4×4 feet of it! ha!

    • Yep, it was soooo tasty! I bought a book about small space gardening and there is a ton of info on the net about it. I consider my actual veggie garden space to be small. I grow everything UP. Vertical.
